 Having your own domain name is generally considered a good thing. It looks more professional and it is easier to remember than blogspot domain name. It also offers more stability as there is the risk of losing your blog if Google decides to close your blog for any reason.

To have your own domain name hosted for free, you can either buy the domain name from blogger, I will get to that step later. If you already have a domain name you can change it, following the steps below.

Here are the steps

1. Go to your domain name registrar, (The company you bought your domain name from).

2. Log in to your registrar and click on DNS, create a CNAME record for your domain, and change the www "alias" or hostname with ghs.google.com,

For the exact producer for your registrar, see help here from google, if your registrar is not in the list, just submit a ticket help and ask your registar to do it for you.

3. Remember you are only changing the alias

4. It should take few hours to a day for the change to happen, you can now go to blogger to change settings

6. Click on Switch to custom domain

7. In the right hand side click on Switch to Advanced settings, if you do not have a domain, you can buy it here in this step and you do not have to worry about changing CNAME or doing any of the steps.

8. Finally enter your full domain name including www and then save settings

9. If your domain name is not taking you to your blog, wait a day or two for the CNAME to change, if not contact your registrar.
